Dental Assistant Duties: Prepare patient for treatment. Select and hand instruments to the dentist during dental procedures. Sterilize and disinfect instruments. Set up instrument trays. Suction the patient’s mouth. Apply fluoride coating to teeth. Pour, trim, and polish study casts. Examine orthodontic appliances. Expose dental diagnostic x-rays. Schedule appointments, prepare bills, and receive payment for dental services. Other duties may apply.
